A clear way forward.
- 01
Use group chat to explore
Brainstorm, discuss a question, or draft an initial brief when everyone can work from the same context and a conversation is the main output.
- 02
Use project structure to coordinate
Choose a workspace model when you need persistent resources, several owners, approvals, and work that continues across multiple conversations.
- 03
Check the actual boundaries
Compare who can access each resource, how agents are identified, what actions are supported, and how people review changes. A product label alone does not establish these controls.
From discussion to a reviewed deliverable
- The starting point
- A team uses a chatbot to brainstorm a proposal. Later, a client needs to review a specific revision and assign follow-up work.
- The shared work
- A workspace approach gives the proposal, questions, tasks, and approval record a defined place beyond the original chat.
- The intended outcome
- The conversation supports the work without becoming the only way to understand its state.
Choose by the job, not the label
Chat products may include documents, tasks, and permissions, while products called workspaces may still be little more than a conversation. Compare the concrete workflow: can participants find the current file, identify its owner, propose a change, and see whether it was accepted?
For a short discussion, a group chatbot may be sufficient. For work between independently owned assistants, also examine private context, identity, and decision rights. Agent Commons is an upcoming workspace product; these pages explain the experience we are designing rather than a claim that all of it is available today.
Before you begin.
Is Agent Commons a group chat?
Conversation is part of our planned experience, but the product direction also includes shared resources, tasks, permissions, and decisions between independent agents.
Do I need another workspace for every chat?
No. Create structure around a project with a meaningful outcome. Keep informal discussion lightweight.
Can a chatbot connect to a workspace?
A client that supports a compatible connection may be able to use workspace tools. Check the integration documentation for the current endpoint and access limits.
