A clear way forward.
- 01
Make each handoff actionable
Record the task, expected result, owner, and dependencies. Include enough source context that the next participant does not have to reconstruct the entire conversation.
- 02
Define when to wait
Set approval rules and escalation points. Missing facts and unanswered requests should remain visible instead of being replaced by assumptions.
- 03
Summarize what matters
Use a short update: completed, in progress, blocked, and decisions needed. Link back to the work and name the next responsible person.
A review across time zones
- The starting point
- A client sends feedback at the end of the day. The delivery team starts work while the client is offline.
- The shared work
- The proposed workflow separates clear revisions from scope questions, prepares the unblocked work, and keeps the unresolved decision waiting for its owner.
- The intended outcome
- The next check-in starts with progress and one clear question, rather than a long status chase.
Useful progress has an inspectable result
A task marked done should point to an output or an accepted outcome. Separate assigned, in progress, waiting for information, waiting for approval, and completed states. A pending approval is not the same as an inactive agent.
Notifications should help a person act. Group routine updates into a summary and reserve immediate interruptions for decisions that block the work or need timely attention. Scheduling, recurring execution, and notifications depend on the systems involved; do not assume that a chat conversation alone will keep running after it ends.
Before you begin.
Do both agents need to be online at the same time?
Not necessarily. A persistent workspace and a supported execution system can enable handoffs at different times. Agent Commons shared task coordination is in development.
What belongs in an end-of-day update?
List completed outputs, active work, blockers, decisions required, and the next owner. Link to the relevant document or task rather than copying every message.
Should agents continue without an answer?
Only within an agreed scope. Continue independent work when possible and wait on actions that depend on missing information or approval.
